In 1803-1805 in honor of the city’s centenary at the expense of empress Maria Feodorovna a hospital for the poor was built, the Mariinsky hospital. The central building and the side wings face Liteyny Prospect. The project author is D. Quarenghi. The front yard is separated from the street by an iron cast fence.  From time to time the fence was repainted, its original refinement being lost. The issue of architectural monuments (buildings facades, sculptures, metallic constructions) preservation is extremely topical today. Architectural constructions restoration is a difficult and complex type of construction works. Quality restoration requires profound and special experience and skills and is justly considered the highest level of construction mastery. The specialists of MATIS company have been engaged in restoration of metal decor and metal parts at the objects of federal and municipal preservation for several years and, therefore, possess the adequate experience in different buildings facade restoration. In May, 2011 MATIS company commenced the cast iron fence restoration works. To remove the multilayer paint coating Old Paint Remover SP-67, grade A was used.

Old Paint Remover SP-67, grade A works efficiently on vertical, horizontal and ceiling surfaces.

Old Paint Remover SP-67, grade A contains neither acids nor alkalis, and thus, does not corrode the metallic surfaces being cleaned. The agent is applied with consumption of minimum 300 ml per square meter.

Please note that the remover was applied unevenly. The agent must be applied with a brush, a spattle or a roller in even layers without tintage.

Exposure time varies from 30 to 50 minutes. The softened paint layers are removed with a spittle or a wire brush. It is more convenient to flush the disrupted paint layer and the worked-out Old Paint Remover SP-67 grade A with a radial water jet (using K?rcher-type high-pressure cleaner).

Old Paint Remover SP-67 grade A coped with the task excellently, all the intricate and decorative elements of the cast iron were cleaned down to the metal.

After the old paint removal the metallic surface must be degreased by solvent to enhance the adhesion of the primer and metal. During metal painting the primer is applied in two or more layers. Then metal is painted. Simultaneously with cast iron fence restoration the limestone plinth is restored.
