Glued laminated timber (Glulam) is a new technology in wooden constructions building. One of the advantages of glued laminated timber is that it is deformation-resistant. It provides a perfectly new level of architectural creative work, as the glued construction is not limited by span width, depending on a timber length.
Glulam is made from wood of coniferous species, which is sawn and treated in drying chambers to the relative humidity 8 to 12%. There may be several bars to be glued, which makes the laminated timber durable and size-independable. For gluing bars with one another special two-component high-tensile glues are used which do not prevent wood from “breathing”.
Painting bars with scumbling agents is a complex and labor-consuming process. The bars being glued have both different density and fibers direction. To match the joints of the bars in color tinge one should strictly observe the following procedure. Firstly, the surface of the timber is preliminarily cleaned from dust and dirt. Secondly, in order to avoid defects during glulam painting, a layer of colorless Dimet® Ultra-Antiseptic Impregnation preliminarily solvent-diluted. It is completely absorbed into the surface being painted, strengthening the upper wood layer. The colorless impregnation acts in this case as an antiseptic primer. Thirdly, a repeated wood painting is to be carried out. Dimet® Ultra-Antiseptic Impregnation is applied onto a surface with a sprayer.
In Pic.3 a treatment with colorless impregnation as primer coating and a mahagony color antiseptic application is shown. There is no tonal mismatch here, unlike two-layer pigmenting agent painting without primer.
The customer preferred Dimet® Ultra-Antiseptiс Impregnation of mahogany color.
Dimet® Ultra-Antiseptic Impregnation tints wood in various colors – lemon, mahogany, walnut, white and red oak, rosewood. Рiс.5 — A wall is protected against deterioration with Dimet® Ultra-Antiseptiс Impregnation, cherry color.
Dimet® Ultra-Antiseptic Impregnation can be used for both interior and exterior works. The compound is quick-drying, drying time: approx. 1 hour.
Owing to a special combination of resins of various molecular weight and solvents selection Dimet® Ultra-Antiseptic Impregnation possesses good permeating ability.
Houses built with glued laminated timber become more and more popular today. A modern house built with this material is cosy, good-looking and comfortable.
